Miloš Kužvart: "Now it's up to clusters of key companies"

The CABH has been working to put the circular economy into practice since 2016. "Our first concrete goal was to put an end to landfilling and to put it where it belongs in the waste hierarchy - at the tail end," says Miloš Kužvat, Executive Director of the ČAObH. This has been achieved with the forthcoming Waste Act, which contains 80% of all the proposals and comments that the ČAObH has developed. The law is now moving towards its approval in the Chamber of Deputies. "Our expertise lies in our membership base, which is made up primarily of private sector companies in key industries from manufacturing to recycling that see the future of their business in the context of sustainability," says Kuzvart.

Passing the law - and therefore encouraging recycling and recovery of waste at the expense of landfill - is only the first step. "Now we need to prepare concrete conditions for companies. That's why we are starting to work on concrete changes directly in individual sectors," Kužvart says, adding that three clusters are currently being created - for packaging, energy recovery and construction. The companies involved can thus find solutions to their needs while applying the principles of the circular economy. Other clusters will be created continuously and depending on the current needs of each sector. According to Miloš Kužvart, it is "the connection of key players in the value chain that is the main added value of cluster cooperation."
