Discussions on new waste legislation give reason for optimism

The second reading of the government's waste bills, the Packaging Act, the law on selected end-of-life products and the so-called Amendment Act is an example of how legislators can make a very positive contribution to the government's proposals.

This Wednesday, the House Economic Committee adopted amendments that mark a breakthrough on the road to a circular economy.

A significant majority of the voting members of the Economic Committee AGAINST THE POLITICAL SPECTRE supported, for example, proposals to shorten the period for which the government proposal would allow landfilling of recoverable waste components. Specifically, the proposal by MEP Petr Dolinek was that instead of 2030, the year 2028 should be approved.

Equally important support was given to the proposal that the change in the proposed Amendment Act should support green procurement in the public sector. This change to the current Public Procurement Act is truly ground-breaking and will greatly assist in increasing sales of products made from recycled materials.

We can only wish that not only for the benefit of environmental protection, but also for the benefit of the sensible and efficient use of raw materials, the above-mentioned proposals will be supported in the so-called third reading and will be adopted by the House of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.
