The Czech Association of the Circular Economy (ČAObH) and the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic (SMO CR) issued a joint press release. In it, they call on MPs to correct the situation where recycling is double-taxed by approving Jan Řehounek's amendment. According to the proposal, the provision of municipal waste management services by municipalities has been included among the activities subject to VAT. This is not the case so far, which puts municipalities at an illogical disadvantage and, moreover, unnecessarily increases the prices of products. "While the trend is for tax breaks to support recycling, in this case recycling and sorting are taxed twice", points out Miloš Kužvart, Executive Director of the Czech Association of Circular Economy, z.s. "We have been solving this problem for many years with the Ministry of Finance. Minister Schiller promised that double taxation would be eliminated, but this has not happened yet. It would be advisable to do so now, before the new waste legislation comes into force, which will increase the requirements for sorting and recycling, and therefore increase their economic costs", adds Pavel Drahovzal, Vice-Chairman of the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic and Mayor of Velký Osek.
