EKO-KOM a. s., the authorised packaging company, has published the latest results of audited results of packaging waste sorting. The collection rate of all types of packaging waste has increased again year-on-year and the amount of packaging waste per capita is decreasing.
The data on the sorting results of all packaging waste and the yield per type of material are based on regular quarterly reports submitted by municipalities participating in the EKO-KOM System, according to which municipalities also receive financial rewards from EKO-KOM.
All types of municipal collection of packaging waste registered by municipalities are included in the cumulative collection rate, i.e. bins and containers, door-to-door bag collections, collection yards and sites, secondary raw material buyers, etc. Trade, business and industrial waste are not included.
An overview of the collection and recovery rates of sales packaging intended for final consumers is compiled from the reports of producers placing packaging on the market and collection data in traditional municipal systems. As municipal waste containers are also used incorrectly by tradesmen who use packaging not registered as saleable to final consumers, in some cases packaging waste can generate a collection rate of over 100%.
In the document below, we can see another positive trend, where the volume of packaging waste is decreasing year-on-year due to less packaging on the market. This is indicated by the annual recovery rate of each type of packaging waste in kg per capita. This trend is good news for meeting the targets of the new upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). According to the PPWR, we need to reduce packaging waste by 5% in 2030, 10% in 2035 and 15% in 2035 compared to 2018.
