Prague, 22 September 2022 - Representatives of industry, waste management, ministries, Czech and European legislators gathered at an international conference in Prague. Opinion of the Czech Chamber of Commerce on the intention to include the energy recovery of municipal waste in the EU Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS)

Prague, 7 March 2022 By the end of the decade, the Waste to Energy concept should be included in the EU ETS, i.e. facilities for the energy recovery of municipal waste should buy emission allowances. The Czech Circular Economy Association believes that this plan goes against the principles of the circular economy and will bring further negative impacts. Without the implementation of the concept [...]

Prioritise Czech waste for recycling and do not import unusable ones from abroad. The Ministry of the Environment will tighten controls.

The Ministry of the Environment has objected to the threat of a collapse of plastic waste sorting in municipalities. The reports came in response to a ban on landfilling of plastic sorting residues unless the criteria defined by the new law are met. However, according to the MIT, the relevant provisions of the law will ensure that "landfills do not compete with recycling facilities and that the long-standing waste management hierarchy is realistically implemented." Why not reject the Packaging Bill

Transposition of the new Packaging Directive is already five months late. Failure to adopt the amendment to the Packaging Act means a new legislative process, including commenting procedures. This will delay transposition by at least another year. From an EU point of view, it is significant that while a delay in transposition is tolerated if the transposition standard is in the parliamentary process, it is never tolerated if transposition is not [...]

The law is final, we are working on it

Four bills on waste management have arrived in the Senate for consideration. This should finally bring to a close one phase of our work in the Association, when we have been pushing elements of the circular economy into the laws and trying to speed up the process of limiting landfilling and its disadvantage compared to recycling as much as possible. We are already working on the next phase. In September, at a meeting of the members of the [...]
